FAQ

Q: What does it mean to be a New Zealand Certified Builder?

The New Zealand Certified Builders (NZCB) was founded in 1998 on the premise that all its members be trade qualified.

Since its inception, the association has worked to raise the standard of its members’ knowledge of the building industry in practical terms and the administration and management of contracts through its educational annual conferences and regular tool box meetings, where members cover topics such as Health & Safety, Forms of Contract, insurance and matters relating to the Act and the Building Code.

As members we are able to take advantage of this education and keep abreast of all the new construction materials and contract related updates.

Q :What does it mean to be a Licensed Building Practitioner?

Since March 2012 when the LBP scheme came into force, consented, restricted work is required to be carried out only by LBPs. The scheme sets minimum standards for each licence class and as we are now accountable to the Building Practitioners Board, we are required to work within our competency levels as set out by the class we hold.

Q: Can you project manage the whole job?

Yes, in fact we prefer to project manage all our contracts. Due to the somewhat isolated location of the region, we have found that we are in the best position to oversee the project to deliver on the clients’ requirements.

Q: Can you organise consents?

Whilst all consents are now required under the Act to be applied for by the clients, we are able to assist in the consenting process and complete on your behalf.

Q: Do you provide a building warranty?

Yes. As a Member of NZCB (New Zealand Certified Builders we offer a 10 year Homefirst Builder Guarantee which covers loss of deposit, non-completion of build, structural defects (10 years), weather tightness (10 years), non-structural defects (2 years) and alternative accommodation.

Q: Why should we use you?

Being local makes us more available. We have vast experience and completed projects to prove our capability. Combined with a can-do attitude and a personal passion for building, why would you want to use anyone else!
